Free Active Shooter Training Resources, Templates, and Guides
ALIVE's active shooter training resources page exists so safety leaders can move quickly. Whether you're a California employer scrambling to meet SB 553 workplace violence prevention training requirements, a Pennsylvania school district building an Act 55 plan, a security manager drafting an emergency action plan, or a parent or congregant pushing leadership to take active shooter preparedness seriously, you'll find a head start here.
The library includes free workplace violence prevention plan templates, SB 553 compliance checklists, school safety quick-reference cards, classroom lockdown posters, behavioral threat assessment intake worksheets, and after-action review forms. Each resource is designed to drop into your organization with minimal customization. To pair a resource with formal instruction, see our online active shooter training courses or request on-site instructor-led training.
How Organizations Use the ALIVE Resources
HR and safety teams use the resources to roll out workplace violence prevention training and document compliance. Schools and universities use them as parent-facing communication and staff prep. Places of worship use them to brief greeters, ushers, and security teams. Government agencies and hospitals use them to align frontline staff with post-incident protocols. Whatever your industry, the goal is the same: turn awareness into action.
Frequently Asked Questions
What free active shooter training resources do you offer?
ALIVE publishes downloadable workplace violence prevention plan templates, SB 553 California compliance checklists, school safety quick-reference cards, and emergency action plan starters. Most resources are free for any organization to adapt.
Can I share these resources with my team?
Yes. The free active shooter resources are intended to be distributed inside your organization. We only ask that you keep the ALIVE attribution intact so people know where to access the full training program if they want to go deeper.
Do you have resources tailored to my industry?
Yes - we publish industry-specific guidance for businesses, hospitals, places of worship, government agencies, schools and universities, and event venues. Each resource pairs naturally with our online active shooter training course.
How often are the resources updated?
We update materials whenever federal guidance changes (OSHA, DHS, FBI), when state laws are passed (such as California SB 553 or Pennsylvania Act 55), or when after-action reports surface meaningful new lessons learned from real incidents.
Are these resources a substitute for training?
No - they're a starting point. Real active shooter preparedness requires hands-on rehearsal. Use the resources to plan, then complete in-person active shooter survival training for muscle memory.
