"Michael Julian has written an excellent book. Practical, detailed, and a potential life saver if you find yourself in the midst of a targeted attack."

Colorado Springs LGBTQ Nightclub is Latest Mass Shooting Incident
Club Q is a Colorado Springs nightclub that many members of the LGBTQ community considered a safe haven. On Saturday, November 19th, just before midnight, the safety of this venue was shattered as a mass shooter opened fire with a long gun, killing five and injuring 25 others.
It is reported that the shooter was wearing a military-style jacket and, in addition to carrying the rifle, several other firearms were discovered at the nightclub. The shooter was also said to have around six magazines of ammunition.
Some of the club's patrons are credited with stopping the attack before more people could be injured and other lives lost. These individuals intervened, tackling and subduing the active shooter until law enforcement could arrive on the scene and respond.
"10 Minutes to Live"
The notion that mass shooting incidents are often quick, often starting and finishing before law enforcement can arrive is the basis of Michael Julian's book 10 Minutes to Live: Surviving an Active Shooter Using A.L.I.V.E. In the book, Julian explains that the average active shooting event lasts 10 minutes or less. Thus, it's important for people to know what steps to take to protect themselves (and others) if they ever find themselves in this type of situation.
These steps are provided in Julian's A.L.I.V.E. Active Shooter Survival Training program, which stands for assess, leave, impede, violence, and expose. In this program, participants are taken through the purpose behind each step, along with the actions they can take at that stage of the event to improve their chances of survival, along with potentially increasing the risk of survival for others around them.
In Person and Online Active Shooter Survival Training Options
The A.L.I.V.E. Active Shooter Survival Training program is available both in person and online. The in-person option is available in all 50 states, as well as some international locations. Those in and around the Colorado Springs area, as well as in other portions of the state, may be interested in A.L.I.V.E.'s Colorado-based active shooter training.
For those interested in learning how to respond during an active shooting incident, A.L.I.V.E. offers online active shooter training options too. Courses range from one to three hours, including a 20-minute refresher course. This provides the opportunity for people to learn and develop an active shooter response plan from the comfort of their homes.
