"Michael Julian has written an excellent book. Practical, detailed, and a potential life saver if you find yourself in the midst of a targeted attack."

The Benefits of Active Shooter Training: Why Preparedness Saves Lives
Active shooter incidents unfold in minutes—often before first responders can arrive. The difference between chaos and coordinated action comes down to one thing: training. When people know what to look for and what to do, they make faster, better decisions that save lives.
At A.L.I.V.E. Active Shooter Survival Training, we deliver practical skills your team can remember under stress—turning fear into action and confusion into a plan.
What Training Actually Changes
1) Faster, Decisive Response
Training builds muscle memory. Employees and students move sooner, choose safer routes, and avoid bottlenecks—critical seconds that reduce casualties.
2) Lower Panic, Higher Confidence
Clear, memorable steps reduce freeze responses. People who understand their options are calmer and more effective in protecting themselves and others.
3) Better Use of the Environment
Barricading, improvised tools, room layout, and cover vs. concealment—training helps people use what’s around them to increase survivability.
4) Clear Communication & Coordination
Knowing who alerts 911, how to give accurate descriptions, and how to guide others prevents mixed messages and speeds the professional response.
5) Stronger Safety Culture
Preparedness becomes part of everyday operations: proactive reporting, smarter event planning, and shared awareness across departments.
6) Risk, Compliance & Duty of Care
Demonstrating a credible program helps fulfill your duty of care, improves audit readiness, and supports risk management and continuity planning.
Why A.L.I.V.E. Works Under Stress
The A.L.I.V.E. method is simple and sticky:
-
A — Assess: Raise awareness, identify exits, read behavior cues.
-
L — Leave: Create distance fast when it’s safe to do so.
-
I — Impede: Barricade and deny access if escape isn’t possible.
-
V — Violence (last resort): Commit to survival actions if confronted.
-
E — Expose: When safe, communicate with first responders and guide others.
Designed for recall in chaos, A.L.I.V.E. turns a complex scenario into five plain-language steps people can act on immediately.

"As a retired 32 year law enforcement veteran, with several years of SWAT and tactical experience, I learned some different unique perspectives as it pertains to civilians dealing with active threat situations. Very good class for civilians who may have never experienced reacting to a life and death stressful situation."
