"Michael Julian has written an excellent book. Practical, detailed, and a potential life saver if you find yourself in the midst of a targeted attack."

Why Preparing for an Active Shooter Threat Is So Important Today
Active shooter events have become an unfortunate reality of modern life. From schools and workplaces to shopping centers and houses of worship, no environment is immune to the possibility of sudden violence. The difference between tragedy and survival often comes down to one thing: preparedness.
At A.L.I.V.E. Active Shooter Survival Training, we believe that knowledge and preparation save lives. Understanding what to look for—and knowing how to respond—empowers individuals and organizations to protect themselves and others when seconds matter most.
The Rising Frequency of Active Shooter Events
According to FBI data, the number of active shooter incidents in the U.S. has risen dramatically over the past decade. In many cases, attacks unfold in under 10 minutes, often before law enforcement can arrive.
These statistics are not meant to cause fear—they highlight a simple truth: the world has changed, and preparedness must evolve with it. Whether you manage a business, school, or public facility, having a trained and informed team is critical to reducing risk and saving lives.
Why Training Matters
An untrained person may panic, freeze, or make unsafe choices in a crisis. But with the right training, people respond faster, think clearly, and act decisively.
Active Shooter Preparedness Helps You:
-
Recognize potential threats early through situational awareness.
-
Respond quickly and effectively to danger using proven survival techniques.
-
Reduce panic and confusion by understanding what to do before, during, and after an event.
-
Protect others through leadership and clear communication.
Training doesn’t just save lives—it builds confidence, resilience, and readiness at every level of an organization.
The A.L.I.V.E. Method
At A.L.I.V.E., we teach a simple, five-step method designed to be remembered and applied under extreme stress:
-
A – Assess: Be aware of your surroundings and identify exits and threats early.
-
L – Leave: Escape when it’s safe to do so—distance is your best protection.
-
I – Impede: Barricade and block entry points if you can’t leave.
-
V – Violence: As a last resort, fight back with commitment to survival.
-
E – Expose: When safe, call 911 and assist others.
This framework helps people make fast, life-saving decisions—even in the most unpredictable situations.
Preparation Saves Lives
Preparedness isn’t about living in fear—it’s about empowerment. It’s about ensuring that if the unthinkable happens, you and your team have the mindset, tools, and confidence to respond effectively.
When you prepare in advance, you’re not just increasing your chances of survival—you’re protecting your family, coworkers, and community.
Take Action Before It’s Too Late
The time to prepare is now, not after an incident occurs. Don’t assume it can’t happen where you work, study, or worship. Taking one proactive step today could save dozens of lives tomorrow.
