Michael Julian, the creator of the A.L.I.V.E. Active Shooter Survival Training Program, began his training and assisted his father Ron Julian and founder of the parent company, National Business Investigations (NBI), at the age of 16. He majored in Administration of Justice in college where he was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa International Scholastic Order for academic achievement.
He began working full time for NBI in 1990, specializing in surveillance operations and continued his education by completing the California Department of Justice Reserve Law Enforcement Academy and studying advanced surveillance techniques from the National Association of Investigative Specialists.
Michael joined the California Association of Licensed Investigators (CALI) in 1995 where he served as a District Governor, on the Legislation and Technology Committees, Education & Training Task Force, Board of Directors as the Vice President of Administrative Services for five terms, and as President in 2012 and 2013.
Michael created MPS Security & Protection, the personal and asset protection division of NBI in 2003 to satisfy the increase in demand for executive level and facility security services. He is licensed in multiple states as a Private Investigator and Security Professional, is a graduate of the Executive Protection Institute and Executive Security International, and Board Director or member of several national and international security associations.
Michael’s security training includes behavioral threat assessment, active shooter survival, executive and asset protection, self-defense, defensive and evasive driving, close protection, aviation security, protective surveillance and counter surveillance, and covert protection. Besides Active Shooter, he teaches training courses in Executive and Asset Protection throughout the United States, and is a trusted security consultant for numerous organizations, teaching workplace violence identification and reaction, and active shooter survival and featured security expert for Channel ABC 7 News.
A.L.I.V.E. was created in 2014 when Michael began teaching his Active Shooter Survival philosophy throughout the United States. His book on the subject, 10 Minutes to Live: Surviving an Active Shooter Using A.L.I.V.E. was published in 2017 and the online version of the A.L.I.V.E. Training Program was launched in 2019 and is now part of the corporate security training program for companies throughout the world.
In mid-2019 the first A.L.I.V.E. Instructor Certification Course was held in Southern California, creating several new, qualified instructors to present the program. Michael is now a keynote speaker at conferences, but still teaches the course to select businesses, public utilities agencies, medical and educational institutions throughout the world.
Michael has been a resident of Murrieta, CA for over 20 years and has developed lifelong relationships within the security community. He is extremely passionate about educating people to have a situational awareness mindset. “Everyone should experience an active shooter survival training
, not just the executives that can budget for the advanced trainings for the future of their businesses, but all everyone. Mothers, fathers, business owners and neighbors”, says Michael.
“With every tragedy that takes place such as Columbine, Virginia Tech, the Las Vegas Mandalay Bay shooting or Sutherland Springs church, we should be increasingly aware of our surroundings and learning from each incident. I am approached after each devastating event and asked what could have been done during this scenario to help increase the odds of survival, my active shooter survival training will teach you just that.”
How to increase your odds of survival until the police arrive. The audience will walk away with knowledge on reflexes and confidence they can use to protect themselves through a combination of drills and their specific departments and classroom learning.
